About

Hi there ! I am Melicia. I’m an Architect and Computational Designer based in Germany.
You are visiting my online portfolio.

About me>

“I am a Venezuelan architect and designer with a passion for the intersection of sustainability, technology, and computational design. My journey has taken me from Venezuela to Germany, where I have been working on innovative approaches to sustainability and design strategies with generative algorithms, from furniture to solar façades. After studying architecture at FAU-UCV, I continued my education in Paris and later earned a Master of Engineering in Computational Design in Germany. Currently, I lead the computational design team at AVANCIS GmbH and teach parametric design and digital fabrication for the bachelor at the FAU-UCV. My work has been presented at conferences and trade fairs such as ABS, Glasstec, and BAU. Alongside my technical work, I enjoy exploring art through painting, generative design, and ceramics. As a consultant, I support designers and architects by implementing algorithmic design to optimize resources and strategies while balancing aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.”

I graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela as Architect, where I hold a position an assistant professor and been teaching for more than 12 years for the current Architecture Bachelor curriculum. As a lecturer I developed a subject for senior students that focuses on understanding different architectural tendencies and their impact on contemporary societies. I’ve worked binding professional and academic work as often as possible. With a solid background in architectural, design prototyping, space planning and architectural project management, participating in several multidisciplinary and international projects. My main interests and goals include a coherent conceptual foundation on projects and experimental development on innovative ways to inhabit the public and private space. As a designer I have an interest into architectural, objects and industrial design related to urban landscapes, its inhabitant’s use, with focus on user and nature centered design (UCD / NCD).

I have a Master in Computational Design in Germany, where I explored in depth into design with code and visual programming tools, parametric design, digital fabrication, structural analysis, optimization and form finding, and further into Machine Learning and AI, applied to design, design strategies and architecture. Some of my study projects involved robotic and CNC furniture fabrication. ABM modeling for high-rise buildings, parametric and structural form finding using spring physics, FEM structural and wind analyses. And more specifically, implementation of AI and machine learning applied for solar façade design using photovoltaic energy through solar panels (BIPV).

At the moment I am Computational Designer and Group Leader for AVANCIS, Solar facades, a German Company. There we support Sales Department by providing care of technical consultancy for solar facade projects, where I’ve implemented many digital workflows to optimize the facade design the energy optimization of the BIPV Projects. We assist in many intelligent ways into the Facade projects by providing our Computational design workflows and computational design thinking to improve performance while enhancing the aesthetics, from form-finding and shape rationalization to energy optimizations we thrive when projects require a neat design solution.

For me creativity lives across all aspects of my life, some more mathematical that others. Consequently, I have a strong passion for art and hands-on-project which I lead in my free time as a double personality and you can navigate to my creative IG accounts to discover more.

Thanks for stopping by. I will be posting my latest works, as for now this portfolio has a only few of my projects. Do you have questions about my portfolio, you want to view my LinkedIn Profile, see all selected Works, or maybe you have a nice project in mind and want to collaborate? Lets see how can I improve your project! Drop me a line on the Contact page and let’s work it out! This also works for comments, any random question or to tip me about anything I might have left out. Looking forward to it.
